I've had my fair share of gold tone casting. My best advice? Patience. It may take some trial and error to get the desired result, especially if the gold tone doesn't turn out the way you expected.

I agree. Getting the ideal gold tone on stainless steel isn't always easy. Plus, prepping the surface is key. You need to grind off any oxidization and ensure the surface is smooth before start.

Good points, I've also found that coating the steel with lacquer before applying the gold tone can help to secure it. Anyone else tried this?

I've done this before and in my experience, it depends on the application. Stainless steel is durable and resistant to rust, so great for harsh environments.

I second. I've found that stainless steel casting for gas struts really pays off for off-road vehicles. The mix of strength and rust resistance is great.
