That's a really good question! Chrysler's massive block engines get a rich history, and the materials used for their crankshafts varied over the years and across a variety of motor models. From what i've gathered, many early chrysler big brick engines, such as the rb series, featured cast iron crankshafts. These cast iron crankshafts were known for their longevity and reliability, but they on top had any limitations in terms of performance. Even so, as engine engineering advanced, chrysler began employing forged steel crankshafts in certain high-performance versions of their big chunk engines, such as the legendary 440 six pack. Can anyone furnish more insight into the materials used for chrysler big block crankshafts and how they evolved over time?
