I've always had trouble telling the difference between silver and stainless steel. Any tips?
Sure! One of the first things I do is look at the color. Silver is often brighter and whiter as compared to stainless steel which has more of a gray tone.
That's true,. But color can sometimes be deceiving. I prefer the magnet test. Stainless steel is magnetic and silver isn't.
That's a good trick! I also check for markings. Many silver items are stamped with marks like “925” or “sterling” as a sign of their authenticity.
I learned something new today! I had no idea silver had specific markings! Thanks!
Pleasure to share! Keep in mind not all pieces will have these markings but they do provide a high degree of certainty.
